We promised a major announcement this month and boy do we have one! The Monroe County Sports Commission is proud to announce, our partnership with Messenger Post, producing the 1st Issue of SportsHound printing on February 25th, 2009. Sports Hound, MCSC's first quarterly publication, will feature some of our major events, Q&A's with tournament directors, a complete event listing and more! We are also still looking for advertisers; contact us today to see how your organization can be part of our history! Look for Scooter, our SportsHound at upcoming events on our E-Hound Newsletters and in the publication.

Mr. Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today, so guess what, that's right, SIX more weeks of WINTER! Good thing we have a whole line up of events to keep your mind off of the weather!

Sports Commission recommended! You're first way to keep up with the winter weather is to plunge into FREEZIN' Lake Ontario for the 2nd FREEZIN' for a Reason Weekend in Rochester with Special Olympics New York. The 2009 Winter Games kick off this weekend! Cheer on Special Olympic athletes that are participating in venues across town! For more information visit our website.

If PLUNGIN' doesn't help you keep up with the winter weather, why not take a skate around our beautiful Irondequoit Bay? That's what several members of the Rochester Speed Skating Team will be doing this weekend. The first annual Skate the Bay competition is an International Short Track competition that has already drawn attention from out of town skaters. Weather permitting; skaters will glide on groomed natural surface in three different distance races. There will be an Open Skate, if you'd like to skate on the track too! For more information, visit our website!

Ok, ok... Would you prefer to be indoors during the last SIX weeks of Winter? Blast your Winter Blue's Away, with Rochester Elite ALL HEAT's Winter Blast Cheerleading Competition! This 1st Annual Tournament will feature cheerleaders of all ages competing at SUNY Brockport! For more information visit our website.

Stay indoors and watch athletes on ice... The Rochester Curling Club will play host to the GNCC Raymond G. Kayser Memorial Bonspiel Championships this month. If you've never watched a curling event before, here's your chance! Watch these awesome athletes slide on the ice. For more information, check out our website!

Off the ice, but on the court, watch VolleyFX players spike up their winter blues, with a couple games of Volleyball in the VFX Winter Challenge! The Mainstreet Armory and Hot Shots Volleyball are set and ready for 152 teams to play that weekend. If you're a fan of volleyball, be sure to catch the action at this one! For dates and details, visit our website!

Well, that certainly should be enough events this month to kick your winter blues! Thanks to Punxsutawney Phil for seeing his shadow! It just wouldn't be right ending winter so soon with so many events this month!
